Dear SDCCE Community,

This Hispanic Heritage Month is continuing to be a great success!

Enrollment Updates

Enrollment continues to be strong for the fall semester. SDCCE’s overall enrollment stands at 21,392 (15% greater than this time last year), with a fill rate of 76%, which is slightly greater than last fall (75%). SDCCE’s overall headcount is currently 12,515, an increase of 30% compared to this time last fall. Enrollments are tapering as the term continues, with a 2% increase in enrollment and a 1% increase in headcount over the past week. SDCCE's fill rate is equal to last week at 76%. Enrollment management efforts continue, with a remaining 29% of scheduled sections starting 9/26/2022 or later (217 out of 753).

Campus Updates

SDCCE's Basic Needs and Direct Supports request application is now closed, SDCCE’s Office of Student Equity has received over 700 request forms. SDCCEats! will have a pop-up stand at ECC in front of Room 57 (Pantry) daily from 11am to 2 pm. Food distributions will continue through October 13th or while supplies last, Monday through Thursdays, 11 am to 2 pm. Please share with your students and colleagues. Thank you for all of the transformative work you are doing to support our community.

SDCCE hosted 3Fold Communications ahead of the spring regional campaign for campus tours at the Educational Cultural Complex and West City Campus. SDCCE’s Passport to success program welcomed the 2022-2023 cohort during a kickoff event at ECC. View photos. SDCCE’s beginning ESL class started last week at Bayside Community Center with 37 students enrolled. The joint effort with outreach and the assistant WIOA coordinator is an important step for SDCCE getting back into the community post COVID. I met with Diane Moss, managing director of Project New Village, and visited the Community Garden in Mount Hope to kickoff new and developing partnerships at the Educational Cultural Complex. Additionally I attended the inaugural San Diego Inclusive Excellence in K-12 Education Convening, which fosters greater inclusive excellence in the K-12 education and workforce.

Please invite your students! SDCCE will host a student art exhibition and contest “A Celebration of Culture, Community, and Courage” on October 13th, from 1:30pm – 3:30pm at Cesar Chavez Campus. View contest guidelines.

SDCCE launched a new higher education profile on LinkedIn. Please connect with us on LinkedIn here, tag SDCCE in your posts, and add San Diego College of Continuing Education as an employer.

Media Updates

Hispanic Heritage Month has also sparked a leverage in media opportunities for our college. Emeritus Instructor, Yael Lorberfeld interviewed with Imagen Televisión to discuss the benefits of SDCCE's free brain fitness program for older adults. Diverse Issues of Higher Education Magazine featured SDCCE and myself as President in their September “Academic Kickoff” edition. It was a true honor to film a Hispanic Heritage Month feature with ABC 10 News Reporter, Lindsey Peña. Watch the segment here, I discuss my “why” for noncredit education and vision for SDCCE. I am also pleased to announce I have been selected by the San Diego Business Journal as a first-ever Top 50 Latino Leaders of Influence alongside SDCCD Chancellor Carlos Cortez and Rafael Alvarez, Director of the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program at San Diego City College.

As a reminder, President’s Office Hours are now open for 1:1 meetings. Select a 20-minute time slot beginning Friday, September 23, to meet with me: Schedule Here.

Best,
