Dear SDCCE Community,
San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) stands with the San Diego Community College District’s statement on the recent DACA ruling — the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. We stand in solidarity with our Dreamers.
The California Community College system enrolls the largest population of undocumented students of any segment of public higher education. When undocumented immigrants can pursue their career and professional goals free of institutional barriers and discrimination, they are able to reach their educational goals and, in turn, contribute to the improvement of their communities and our economy. For more than one hundred years, SDCCE has provided accessible pathways for undocumented adults to assimilate in America through free citizenship classes, English language skills, workforce training and critical resources and we will continue to do so.
Half of the student body of 30,000 students at SDCCE is made up of Dreamers, immigrants, refugees, and English language learners. As a reminder, SDCCE´s Immigrant-based Support Program is a safe and welcoming place, collaboratively created and supported by students, staff, faculty, and community organizations, as well as our district college Dreamer programs. SDCCE opened its new Immigrant-Based Support Program Student Center this fall at the college’s César E. Chávez Campus in Barrio Logan.
SDCCE is joining forces with California Community Colleges and the district during Undocumented Student Week of Action beginning Monday, October 17th through Friday, October 21st with a series of virtual forums and films. SDCCE’s Dreamer Resource Program presents the 2nd Annual SDCCE UndocuDialogue virtual series:
