Campus Updates

  • Undocumented Student Action Week begins today from October 17-21, 2022. SDCCE is joining forces with California Community Colleges and the district. View events here. Download and share SDCCE's Dreamer Resource digital assets here.
  • SDCCE's Cesar Chavez Campus hosted a beautiful student and employee art exhibition and contest last week for Hispanic Heritage Month. Watch an event recap on CBS8 News and view photos here.
  • SDCCE ESL and DSPS Instructors presented at the CATESOL conference last week, resulting in 11 total presentations, panels, and/or workshops. CATESOL is a Professional Organization Serving Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages in California.
  • SDCCE’s Dean of ESL and Citizenship Jan Jarrell, Dr. Ingrid Greenberg, and Professor Kathryn Manthorpe co-hosted a successful HyFlex showcase as part of the monthly SDICCCA DE Subcommittee meeting on October 7th at the Mid-City Campus. Dean Jarell shared valuable data and information about HyFlex through the lens of a dean's perspective. Professor Manthorpe highlighted innovative HyFlex technology and lesson plans, including the rear-wall camera and the document camera.
  • SDCCE Foundation Executive Director Dr. Laurie Coskey and I toured the Broadway Heights Promenade with the Broadway Heights Community Council board leadership. Board Treasurer Carla Crudup guided us through the promenade, stopping to remember the late Barbara and Robbie Robinson, active members of SDCCEs Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) Historic Preservation Committee and founders of Broadway Heights. Additionally, stopping to admire the bust of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which was created by SDCCE’s welding instructors and students. While there, a gentleman recited Dr. King’s, I Have A Dream Speech in its entirety, inspiring greater collaborations with SDCCE and Broadway Heights community.
  • ECC welcomed Project New Village and key members of philanthropic groups to present their latest community initiative, which will bring more healthy food access to Southeastern San Diego. Innovative Educators visited ECC and Mid-City Campus to film SDCCE’s new Student Online Orientation program launching in Spring 2023; the virtual orientation will encompass SDCCE’s administration, faculty, and Outreach Ambassadors guiding current and prospective students through enrollment and orientation in a virtual platform. This is a huge win for the college as we move to a more streamlined process for our students

Thank you all for your continuous commitment to student success and equity across SDCCE.
