Dear SDCCE Community,

In this season of gratitude, I am reflecting on how deeply grateful I am for our institution. San Diego College of Continuing Education is truly a special place to learn and to work. I am deeply grateful for each of you, our esteemed administrators, faculty, and classified professionals as well as our inspiring resilient students and our amazing community members. It is an honor and a privilege to serve San Diego's most diverse and deserving populations alongside you. Under terms of a Memorandum of Understanding, SDCCE will issue $100 cab-ride vouchers to students who qualify for the college’s basic needs services. Tracking of rides will be maintained on a mobile app designed for SDCCE. This new agreement stems from collaboration with Peter Zschiesche, retiree from the Board of Trustees for the San Diego Community College District and current board member for the United Taxi Workers of San Diego as well as SDCCE. Learn more about the partnership in the news release here.

group of studentsSDCCE celebrated Filipino American History Month in October for the first time in the college's history and as a result please enjoy this powerful testimonial from SDCCE's Senior Accounting Technician Damella Abbott:

We appreciate the opportunity you have provided to us to plan and implement a cultural event that has never been done before at CE for Filipino-American students. Although we only had a few weeks before the event, we created an environment for our students to learn about another culture that represents a large portion of the CE population. One of the aunties (Filipino female) students was so proud that she asked for a shirt to wear to a Filipino-American history luncheon with the Mayor of Chula Vista. She was so proud that she told them about the event and shared the photo below from the luncheon.

I enjoyed attending the Community College League of California annual convention alongside my esteemed colleagues from across the state and our district. The conference places an important emphasis on California's most vulnerable populations especially on the adult learners we serve at SDCCE. This knowledge is critical to me as we prepare for the spring 2024 semester - Forward Together!

Thank you to all those who attended the President's Fall Forum last week to hear updates from Executive Leadership team, Associate Vice Chancellor Peter Maharaj and Associate Dean Jesus Rivas. I echo the praise from Dr. Maharaj: "The forum showcased the collaborative spirit and team engagement and is a testament to the progressive strides SDCCE and our District are making."
