Dear SDCCE Community,

Thank you all for joining me at SDCCE's annual holiday party at Marina Village! It was an honor to celebrate a transformative end of the year together and to connect in a festive atmosphere. I enjoyed spending time with all of you and most of all listening to our students sing, what a treat! Photos are available to download and share, view photo album 1 and photo album 2.

Campus Ready

Currently, wearing a face mask is a requirement and is still in effect at all district locations and district-sponsored events including SDCCE campuses. Effective December 19, 2022, the District will no longer require face coverings on district property. To learn more visit SDCCD's News Center. To learn more visit SDCCE’s Campus Ready web page.

Campus Updates

  • The SDCCE Foundation and I are kicking off SDCCE's Stars on the Rise Scholarship and Awards Giving Campaign tomorrow, December 6th. Please consider making a contribution or sharing the campaign. More details to come!
  • Over the weekend, I delivered welcoming remarks as SDCCE hosted the Hair'itage Play in the ECC theatre. It was a beautiful production on African American hair and identity — a message rooted in SDCCE's Civil Rights history.
  • SDCCE's No-Cost Pre-Apprenticeship Program is enrolling now. The next cohort begins January 10th. Students interested in the building and construction trades are encouraged to apply immediately as space is limited.
  • SDCCE’s Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) students earned a 100% pass rate on the CNA exam this week. Following SDCCE, healthcare students are ready to enter careers at a hospital, acute care and skilled nursing facilities or work in home health.
  • SDCCE’s Career and College Transition department brought Tesla into SDCCE’s automotive classes to speak to students about career opportunities. Two SDCCE Automotive students applied to and were accepted into the Tesla Training program. The training program is based out of the Tesla service centers and is designed to provide hands-on experience to those who are currently in automotive school or are working in the industry as entry-level technicians and through Tesla prepare for direct hire opportunities, or accelerated START training and job placement.
  • SDCCE hosted the Chancellor’s Forum at ECC on November 30th.
  • SDCCE's Clothing and Textiles graduate, Ainara Calahorra, shared her experience in the program and the building of her brand on video.
  • SDCCE will begin production for the spring regional campaign with 3Fold this week, which will include SDCCE’s Child Development and the Clothing and Textiles certificate programs.
  • SDCCE is transitioning from student attendance cards to issuing SDCCE students IDs beginning spring semester, which will support students in their transition to a district college and allow them more access to public transportation and student discounts.
  • Eligible students can apply for SDCCE's State Emergency Aid Grants to support with financial needs up to $500.00.

Upcoming Events

  • On December 8th SDCCEs Office of Career and College Transition and the Child Development department will host “Rock Your Profile” a LinkedIn workshop at Ce-Mesa. Students can register here. The event will be held at 10:00 am and 5:00 pm to allow all students to attend. SDCCE’s Career and College Transition staff will work with all students to help them set up their LinkedIn profiles as part of SDCCE’s work readiness goals. Students will also participate in a workshop provided by Ryan Zervakos, Senior Account Director for LinkedIn.

President's Office Hours

With the holiday breaks coming up, I look forward to meeting with as many SDCCE team members as possible before 2022 comes to a close. The conversations about our institution and the work you are doing have been enriching and empowering. Please continue to sign up to connect.

President’s Office Hours are open for 1:1 meetings. Select a 20-minute time slot to meet with me.
