SDCCE's first Classified Professional Equity Certification (CPEC) Train the Trainers will conclude on Tuesday, December 17th. CPEC is the first professional development program designed for Classified Professionals by Classified Professionals centered on empowering staff in their roles and acknowledging the value and support in the equity work at SDCCE. A total of nine instructional, administrative services, and student services professionals will complete the Train the Trainers series next week and be part of the CPEC sustainability planning and development to continue this training at SDCCE. Our participants have invested in an entire year of programming, time, and energy to better support our students and the institution.
Please join us to celebrate the completion of the CPEC program and Train the Trainer certification on Tuesday, December 17th from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, CE Mesa Room 116 (Welcome Center). We deeply appreciate and acknowledge each of the participants' investment in the institution departments, and in building a stronger community of equity at SDCCE. Please RSVP by Monday, December 16th to Dr. Maureen Rubalcaba, at mrubalcaba@sdccd.edu if you are available to attend.

SDCCE hosted the inaugural in-person CalWORKs Region X meeting at our Cesar Chavez Campus, and the turnout was a tremendous success. Our team provided a welcoming atmosphere for our Region X College Community and partner agencies. The positive feedback we received from attendees highlights the impact of your contributions. It was truly inspiring to see everyone come together, fostering connections and sharing experiences that will resonate within our community for a long time. Many thanks to our team; Juan Serrano, Diana Romero, Aimee Serrano, Yasmine Mena, and Zuri Williams, Dr. Franklin Garret, for making this partnership widely successful. Initiatives like this continue to highlight SDCCE as a top leader for noncredit adult education and workforce training.
The San Diego Business Journal recently published its special focus on higher education and rankings for community colleges and trade schools. SDCCE is once again proud to be included, thanks to our college team and the district who lobbied hard to include our institution a few years back.
Save the date for SDCCE's Open House and Ribbon Cutting for our new Tutoring & Learning Center (TLC) at the Educational Cultural Complex on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. The TLC offers tutoring for enrolled SDCCE students and is now open for High School Equivalency (HSE) testing. I encourage you to extend the invitation with colleagues, students, and your academic and student services teams.
Please join me in marching in the 43rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade, on Sunday, January 19, at 10:00 a.m., where this year's powerful theme is "The Time is Now!” The parade will take place on Harbor Drive (Between Grape and Ash), View Parade Route.
Additionally, all SDCCE campuses will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 21.
For SDCCE professional development opportunities, see flyer, or visit the professional development web page for upcoming workshops. These are available to all SDCCE employees.
A reminder that all requests of the Communications Department must be approved by a dean or vice president and requires submission of a request form. You can find the Project Request Form link on the Faculty and Staff Resources Page of our website. Allow ten working days for a request to be completed. If a request needs immediate attention, please complete the form and contact the Public Information Officer.
President's Updates
It was a joy to host a special President's Breakfast for our Student Affairs and Associated Students of the College of Continuing Education (ASCCE) members and leaders. From spearheading SDCCE's on campus events, leading social media spirit week campaigns, to presenting at the Student Senate of the California Community Colleges Advocacy Conference, our ASCCE is amazing! Special thank you to our student leaders Haydee Zuniga, Adriana dos Santos, Mari Lorenzo, and Melinda Hasselburg for trailblazing new heights for SDCCE's student body and culture.
