Campus Updates

On August 10 a community partner, Second Chance Program, had a tour of the Educational Cultural Complex. Second Chance is a local nonprofit agency located in Southeastern San Diego, with a mission to “disrupt the cycle of incarceration by helping at-risk youth, and justice involved people towards empowered self-sufficiency”. For more information go to their website HERE. The tour included Gina Boyer-Dauzat, Second Chance Senior Director of Programs, and gave a group of their Job Readiness Training clients a chance to learn about noncredit educational programs and meet with instructors and staff and experience SDCCE.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new student lounge at the Educational Cultural Complex will be held on August 30. A student celebration event will be scheduled on September 13.

PRIE’s Associate Dean of Research, Planning, and Innovation, Jesus Rivas, presented at the SDCCD Community Brilliance Series on August 10. Jesus presented the results of the SDCCE Binational Student Study. If you missed it, you may access the session recording here.

My team and I enjoyed attending the Vision 2030: Equitable Access to California Community Colleges Convening at Southwestern College! My favorite part was connecting with our student leaders who are doing the good work.

On Thursday we sent out an email providing the parameters for the fall semester. Please review the ad hoc remote request embedded in the email. Employees who would like to be considered for an ad hoc remote work schedule beginning September 18, 2023, must consult with their direct supervisor and submit a new ad hoc remote request.

The Research Corner

This week, we invite you to check out the Spring 2023 SDCCE Co-enrollment Report. This report includes data for students simultaneously enrolled in CTE and Basic Skills, High School, or ESL classes. The report shows co-enrollment patterns between programs (e.g., students enrolled in ESL and Automotive classes). Take a minute to review these resources and email if you have any questions.
