Happy Classified Professionals Week! It is always an honor to come together ahead of the STAR Conference during our Classified Awards event, which recognizes our outstanding employees who have served in our district and our college for more than 5 years, some individuals have served more than 20 and 30 years! The next milestone celebration is our 2024 commencement ceremony! If you would like to participate in SDCCE's commencement on June 11th please sign up by May 31st. As a member of this year’s Guard of Honor Procession – which precedes the students as they enter the Pavilion, and salutes them during the recessional – you may indicate that preference on this form as well. Participation in the Guard of Honor is open to all faculty and classified professionals from both SDCCE and SDUSD. You must be attired in academic regalia, including cap and gown, if you participate; an option for loaner caps and gowns is also available. View volunteer opportunities/sign up.
Reminder, the San Diego Community College District, all colleges, and Continuing Education will be closed Monday, May 27, 2024 in observance of Memorial Day. The district office and campuses will be closed. All district operations will resume regular business hours Tuesday, May 28th.
Enrollment Updates
SDCCE’s overall enrollment for spring stands at 30,919 (5% greater than this time last year). SDCCE’s overall headcount is currently 16,596, an increase of 7% compared to last spring (15,484). FTEF scheduled for the spring semester is 3% greater than last spring (191.38 to 186.01). View the enrollment report.

For the first-time in our college's history, SDCCE students participated in the district-wide Rite of Passage affinity graduation in celebration of Black excellence. Together with leadership across the SDCCD we recognized 50 graduates from City, Mesa, Miramar, and the College of Continuing Education. More than 250 people were in attendance! It was a cultural, memorable and meaningful experience for all. View Rite of Passage photos.

Mexican born Registered Nurse, Vanessa, is beginning her future again in the United States through tuition-free healthcare certificate programs and ESL classes at our Cesar Chavez Campus. SDCCE’s Cybsersecurity students took first place in the Regional Cyber Competition on May 11th, SDCCE competed live from North City Campus against five other Southern California colleges. Way to go Dean Michelle Gray and Professors Alphonso Brown and Kirsten Lachenmayr in leading our students and our IT programs to the leading spot!

All are welcome to join our college and the SDCCE Foundation this Wednesday, May 22nd at 4 p.m. for our second annual Arbor Day event! A special tree planting will be held at the Educational Cultural Complex patio located between Buildings B and C.
SDCCE recently had the privilege of hosting "The Foundations" workshop last week, facilitated by the esteemed Dr. Siri Brown. This workshop was aimed at delving deep into the African immigrant experience, shining a light on the unique challenges faced by Black students, particularly those originating from Haiti and Somalia. The session served as a powerful platform for discussion on the broad spectrum of Black immigration and diaspora, encouraging all participants to embody the role of change agents within our community.
SDCCE's Executive Assistant Leadership proudly attended the Union of Pan Asian Communities's (UPAC's) 50th Anniversary Gala. UPAC provides a comprehensive array of health and human services programming dedicated to improving the overall well-being of San Diego’s underserved communities.

The SDCCE FELI (Five-Day Experiential Learning Institute) will be offered this summer from June 24th-June 28th at the North City Campus (6/24-6/27) and the VEBA center (6/28). Participants engaged in this 5-day FELI opportunity must agree to a voluntary break from the college 4/10 summer schedule to attend FELI for 5 days at 8 hours/day. Register for FELI.
NANDI is now accepting presentation proposals for their October 3 - 4, 2024 Conference in San Diego, CA. We invite faculty members, students, classified professionals, administrators in the CCCs, system partners, practitioners, researchers, and community members to submit proposals corresponding to the mission and conference objectives. Proposals are due June 16th. Nandi is comprised of a professional network of women of African ancestry who serve to inspire, support, nurture, mentor, and empower community college women students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
The SDCCD has published the first Educational Services newsletter, packed with all the updates, insights, and Educational Services news.
On July 15th the SDCCD will launch Single Sign On for Canvas. Students will use their student email and password to sign into Canvas instead of their student ID number. For more information, please reach out to Dr. Ingrid Greenberg at igreenbe@sdccd.edu.
Students, faculty, administrators, and classified professionals from the San Diego Community College District will march under the district banner at the annual Pride Parade on Saturday, July 20, 2024. This year’s parade theme is "Making History Now!" Register to participate in the Pride Parade with SDCCD.
A reminder that all requests of the Communications Department must be approved by a dean or vice president and requires submission of a request form. You can find the Project Request Form link on the Faculty and Staff Resources Page of our website. Allow ten working days for a request to be completed. If a request needs immediate attention, please complete the form and contact the Public Information Officer.

SDCCE enjoyed attending the Brainstorm By The Bay: Black Education Summit. The dialogue between Black educators that do work on behalf of Black students, families and communities was very powerful. Thank you, Dr. Tami Foy for representing our college and the SDCCE Foundation!


SDCCE enjoyed attending the AFT Retirees breakfast. SDCCE had several faculty who served our students and college that are retiring this year. Thank you for your service and love for our students!
