SDCE and City College Collaborate to Bring Mental Health Services to SDCE Students

Dear Colleagues,

As you may know, San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE) has been working toward expanding Student Services to include mental health support for SDCE students. This effort is a focus toward SDCE’s Strategic Goal to Increase Student Success by increasing support services and access to services.

I’m pleased to share that the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) will receive an award from the California Community College Mental Health Services Grant Program in an amount of up to $350,000. This two-year funding will be used to support a collaboration between San Diego City College and SDCE that will enable an expansion of mental health services to SDCE students.

City College and SDCE will work together to establish a prevention and early intervention program for SDCE Students. Emphasis will be on training staff and faculty to recognize students in distress and make appropriate referrals, screening students for mental health related issues, and establishing community partnerships with agencies that can provide direct service.

Sincerely,

Star Rivera-Lacey, Ph.D.
