Dear SDCCE Community,
Enrollment is now open for summer 2024! As we gear up to begin classes on June 10th, please review a few important reminders and information regarding our application process and our enrollment process and procedures:
- Summer 2024 Enrollment Process: All active scheduled Summer 2024 classes will be available for enrollment without the need of a Permission Number on Monday, May 13th, with some exceptions.
- Student Self Drop Reminder: CCE students have the ability to drop themselves from a class prior to class’ start date. Dropping a Class student guide.
- Waitlists: If a student is attempting to enroll in a class that has reached the enrollment capacity, but there is capacity in the Waitlist, a student can select to add themselves to the class Waitlist. Waitlisting a Class student guide.
- CCE CCCApply Noncredit Application: Students that were enrolled in Spring 2024 classes do not need to submit a CCCApply Noncredit Application in order to enroll for Summer 2024 classes. Upon the student’s first attempt to enroll for the Summer 2024 semester, they will be prompted to answer required questions. These are required once every semester as a continuing student.
- All New CCE students will need to complete a CCCApply Noncredit Application in order to enroll in Summer 2024 classes.
- All Returning (Discontinued) CCE students will need to complete a CCCApply Noncredit Application in order to enroll in Summer 2024 classes.
- Drop-In Assistance for Staff via Zoom: The Office of Admissions and Records will be available via Zoom to assist staff in troubleshooting student application status, To-Do List, Student Groups, etc. on Monday and Tuesday, May 13th and 14th 8:00am-5:00pm.

Enrollment Updates
SDCCE’s overall enrollment for spring stands at 30,852 (5% greater than this time last year, and a 0.4% decrease from last week). SDCCE’s overall headcount is currently 16,568, an increase of 7% compared to last spring (15,463) and a 0.1% increase compared to the previous week (16,551). FTEF scheduled for the spring semester is 3% greater than last spring (191.39 to 186.01). View the enrollment report.
On July 15th the SDCCD will launch Single Sign On for Canvas. Students will use their student email and password to sign into Canvas instead of their student ID number.

Please join me this Wednesday, May 15th in light of mental health awareness and practice. All ages are welcome to inaugural College of Continuing Education Mental Health Fair on May 15 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Educational Cultural Complex, 4343 Ocean View Blvd., on the patio between Buildings B and C. Great news! Following the flood restoration at the Educational Cultural Complex, C-Building classrooms and offices were painted, some cabinets were installed or are underway. A contract for carpet in offices and classrooms is in progress for the ECC main building. The ECC Culinary Arts lab has been painted along with a few 100s classrooms. The ECC Student Lounge has been completed and painted and is ready for use.
Additionally, we have begun the process to remove plastic barriers from the top of the stairs in the ECC foyer. The elevator has been turned on for use. Facilities will reopen restrooms across today and will remove sandbags in the front of entrance doors. We are also expecting the carpet installation in offices and classrooms within the next week or two. Thank you, Anthony Vargas and our entire facilities team, in leading the ECC restoration process!

Mesa College hosted the San Diego Chapter American Association for Women in Community Colleges (SDC-AAWCC) Annual Symposium and Recognition event on May 10th! A big congratulations to our college’s awardees; Classified Professional Awardee Mitza Lindsey, Administrator Awardees Dr. Maureen Rubalcaba and Karen King, Student Awardee Odette Kyamba, Regional Jegna Awardee Dr. Shakerra Carter, and to all the inspiring educators and students across the region!

Save the date! SDCCE's Emeritus' New City Sinfonia Concert under the direction of Alyze Dreiling will perform on June 2nd from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church (3502 Clairemont Dr, San Diego, CA 92117).
As you know, we are very excited that free emergency medical technician (EMT) classes are coming to Southeastern San Diego at the Educational Cultural Complex thanks to our new partnership with Deputy Fire Chief Robert Logan, California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC) , the SDCCE Foundation, and SDCCE. Over the weekend, the new partnership was featured live on ABC, CGN Noticias-Vive Californias, and in the Times of San Diego. Applications are now closed, the EMT academy will begin June 17th.
All are welcome to join the SDCCE Foundation on May 22nd at 4 p.m. for our college's second annual Arbor Day event. Tree planting will take place at the ECC patio between buildings B & C. This will also be an opportunity to learn more about the SDCCD ETi Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training Program.


SDCCE's 2024 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park! Join the Office of Student Affairs and our colleagues from the San Diego Unified School District Adult High School Diploma Program as we acknowledge the successes of our students in High School Diploma and Equivalency studies, Advanced English as a Second Language, and Career/Technical Education programs; we need your support to make this year’s event a stellar celebration!
If you would like to participate as a member of this year’s Guard of Honor Procession – which precedes the students as they enter the Pavilion, and salutes them during the recessional – you may indicate that preference on this form as well. Participation in the Guard of Honor is open to all faculty and classified professionals from both SDCCE and SDUSD. You must be attired in academic regalia, including cap and gown, if you participate; an option for loaner caps and gowns is also available.

After honing her baking skills in SDCCE’s Culinary Arts program, Ramos is now the Lead Pastry at Southern California's only 3-Michelin star restaurant, Addison. The SDCCE FELI (Five-Day Experiential Learning Institute) will be offered this summer from June 24th-June 28th at the North City Campus (6/24-6/27) and the VEBA center (6/28). Participants engaged in this 5-day FELI opportunity must agree to a voluntary break from the college 4/10 summer schedule to attend FELI for 5 days at 8 hours/day. Register for SDCCE FELI.
Spots are still available for the Youth Development training happening on May 17th from 11am to 1:30pm, which will offer methods to better support and understand young adult learners transitioning to SDCCE.
The Office of Planning Research and Institutional Effectiveness is excited to announce the institution has completed the latest rounds of both SLOs and LMI Biennial Reporting with 100% departmental participation. We would like to thank the program chairs, faculty, deans, professional staff, and SLO taskforce for their work. Both SLOs and LMI Biennial Reporting are requirements of the state, district, and accreditation. Beyond these requirements, these efforts increase the data available to inform future decisions as an institution. Finally, we commend the efforts of Dr. Marne Foster, Finnley Armacost, and Michael Gracia for their work to support these collections.
Students, faculty, administrators, and classified professionals from the San Diego Community College District will march under the district banner at the annual Pride Parade on Saturday, July 20, 2024. This year’s parade theme is "Making History Now!" Register to march with SDCCD here.

President's Updates


- On May 8th SDCCE in collaboration with City, Mesa, and Miramar Colleges held the 4th Noncredit to Credit Alignment Lab (NCAL) Symposium. The NCAL project, which has been awarded and recognized by the RP Group, is an intentional pathway and framework from noncredit to credit credentials. It was a great day of fruitful conversations, discussion, and action steps to continue to align pathways for our students. Thank you to City College for hosting the symposium and we look forward to hosting the next symposium in the Fall at the Educational Cultural Complex! Stay tuned for more information.
- Senator Toni Atkins showed her support for issues important to SDCCD and SDCCE including the district’s legislative priorities, in her Senate District 39 News Room.
- SDCCE is newly listed as an educational affiliate of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) organization.
- I am honored to announce I have been appointed by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors as a member of the Treasury Oversight Committee! As the School/Community College District Representative, I will support the committee in encouraging individuals to be more involved in the management of their funds and improve the safety and earnings potential of funds by establishing criteria for fund withdrawals.
