Dear SDCCE Community,

As classes are underway please remind your students that they have access to basic needs resources through SDCCE Cares, enrollment support through our Welcome Centers, and a wonderful Dreamer community through our Immigrant-Based Support Program to name just a few critical wrap around supports our college offers. I wish you a great first week of classes and I look forward to learning about the wonderful initiatives that will take place this semester.

On July 15, 2024, SDCCD will launch Single Sign On (SSO) for Canvas. Students will use their student email and password to sign into Canvas instead of their student ID number. Students who need assistance setting up their student email can visit any of our seven campuses for support. Please bring your phone, laptop, and/or tablet.

The SDCCD is introducing an essential step to safeguard your academic journey: Multifactor Authentication (MFA), which allows for SSO into a student email account, and to many more Apps such as Excel, Word, Zoom, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and beginning July 15th: Canvas. Students can Set up their MFA by logging into their MS 365 account using their student email.

To learn more on how to setup a MFA, please check out the tutorial.

For more information on SSO, please see these SDCCD resources: SSO Faculty Information, SSO Student Information.

President's Updates

To nationally highlight how SDCCE is leading workforce education and combatting rising costs of tuition, I authored a commentary titled "An Affordable Higher Education" for American Community College Daily, read here.

SDCCE's Vice President of Student Services Dr. Shakerra Carter and Dean of Student Affairs Michele Madrid Novak have been appointed to the SDCCD Management Association Board for the 2024-2026 term. Congratulations Dr. Carter and Dean Novak well-deserved!

The Research Corner

This week we invite you to check the report 2023 Survey of Institutional Research, Planning, & Effectiveness Offices in the California Community Colleges System. This report produced by the RP Group, comes from a survey conducted for institutional research offices around California community colleges. The idea is to identify the main focus of the different research offices, the staffing profiles and budget changes, the professional needs of each office, and identifying ways to support these offices. Take a minute to review this resource and email if you have any questions.

President's Office Hours

President's Office Hours are back! Individual zoom meetings will be 20 minutes and are available on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to schedule a virtual appointment with me, please email for detailed information.
