In 2022, the Education Strategy Group (ESG) and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) launched the Non-Credit and Credit Alignment Lab (NCAL), a two-year initiative to support 20 community colleges and four community college systems in developing new or improved pathways between non-credit and credit programs. Participating community college leaders have been working to eliminate the silos that too often exist across noncredit and credit divisions.

ESG and ACCT are pleased to present a webinar on July 31st from noon to 1 p.m. Pacific Time to share best practices and highlight the progress that colleges have made through their participation in NCAL. Leaders in the field, including SDCCE's Dean of Child Development, Dr. Jacqueline Hester, will share their perspectives on alignment and why their institution is prioritizing this strategy to sustain enrollment and create additional pathways for learners to pursue quality credentials and careers.

GradComm presented the SDCCE with initial rebrand recommendations on July 17. They have released a communications audit, along with a 57-page presentation of the survey and research results based on a community phone survey, student and staff online survey, and focus groups. More than 2,000 people in all were contacted.

Furniture was installed in the new Student Lounge at the Educational Cultural Complex. Electricians will be on site to install a track system to power the furniture, put in a new door to the exterior garden, and an accessible door panel for the main entrance. Stay tuned for the Grand Opening that is being planned by our Director of College Facilities and Operations, Anthony Vargas.

Four new IT technician consultants began work on July 5 to support SDCCD IT staff at each SDCCE campus. The team will help us address outstanding work orders and roll out technology already on hand, including upgrading podium computers and the installation of webcams in all classrooms.

A reminder that all requests of the Public Information Office must be approved by a Dean or Vice President and require submission of a Request Form. You can find the Project Request Form link on our website's Faculty and Staff Resources Page. Please allow five working days for a request to be completed. If a request needs immediate attention, please complete the form and contact the Public Information Office.

Please take a moment to read Opinion: Community College Opens Doors of Opportunity for Foster Youth, a commentary I co-authored with Acting SDCCD Chancellor Gregory Smith for the Times of San Diego detailing the critical programs at SDCCE that support former foster youth as they work to reach their educational goals. Thanks to new federal and state funding, we are planning to serve more foster youth and expand the services being offered to the more than 1,500 former foster care youth who live in San Diego County.

The Research Corner

This week, we invite you to check out a resource developed by our partners from the California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO), the Strong Workforce Program Dashboard. The dashboard provides completion and employment data to enable examining students’ long-term outcomes. Take a minute to review this resource and email if you have any questions.
