Vision 2030: A Call-to-Action Adult Education Summit is only 11 days away! More than 40 California community college leaders, elected officials and representatives from business and industry will be speaking at the San Diego College of Continuing Education on October 5 & 6 on eliminating barriers that are keeping adult learners from reaching their educational and career goals. Presenting speakers are being highlighted on SDCCE’s social media pages. Visit the summit web page to learn more and stay tuned for this monumental event!

Enrollment Updates

SDCCE’s overall enrollment for fall stands at 24,495 (15% greater than this time last year, and an 2% increase from last week), with a fill rate of 73%, which is lower than last fall’s (76%). SDCCE’s overall headcount is currently 14,316, an increase of 14% compared to this time last fall (12,515) and a 2% increase from last week (14,071). FTEF scheduled for the fall semester is 10% higher than last fall (187.07 to 170.25). View the enrollment report.

Join us to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at SDCCE

SDCCE Celebrates Chicanx/Latinx Heritage MonthSDCCE acknowledges and celebrates the contributions of Latinos, Latinas, Latinx, and Hispanic-identifying people to our culture and society. We want to honor our students, faculty, and Classified Professionals through the power of the arts. Students and employees are welcome to submit photos, drawings, paintings, sculptures, poetry and other writings, short film or video, music, and constructed art pieces to be showcased and exhibited on October 11th at the Educational Cultural Center from 11 am to 2 pm.

During SDCCE's Noche de Familia Under the Bridge, there will be a viewing of the Chicano Park Documentary. Students, classified professionals, and faculty are invited to bring their families for the viewing of the documentary on the heart of Barrio Logan, Chicano Park. Families can learn about where their students are receiving their education. Café and pan dulce will be available.

Latinx/Chicanx Celebration & Resource Fair

group of people posingSDCCD received a 1.8 million dollar grant to address sub-minimum wage employment for people with disabilities. SDCCE’s DSPS students will welcome the first cohort benefiting from the grant in Spring 2024, which will offer a suite of classes aimed at independent living, self-advocacy, and workforce readiness.

SDCCE’s Be Well hosted a series of suicide prevention events on 9/19 at CE-Miramar, 9/21 at Mid-City Campus. The next events will be held on 9/25 at Cesar Chavez Campus at 12:30 p.m. in room 205, and on 9/26 at ECC at 12:30 p.m. in room 169 for students and employees.

All are welcome to attend the Community Health & Resource Fair on Wednesday, October 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson YMCA. Free shuttle rides are available to and from the Educational Cultural Complex.

Passport to Success Onboarding of Faculty and Classified Professionals has begun! I alongside VP Sabanos, VP Carter, and VP Minou will speak at the fall Passport to Success workshop, on October 13 at the Educational Cultural Complex from noon to 3 p.m. Please join us for a lunch and meet the next set of rising leaders for our institution.

group of people posingSDCCE Employees attended the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Institute hosted by the California Community Colleges on September 21 & 22.

SDCCE’s College and Career Transitions in partnership with Options for All hosted a hiring event focused on providing inclusive employment opportunities for differently abled students on September 19, at the ECC Complex. More than 300 community members attended.

Two Project Assistants became adjunct ESL instructors, Alfredo Lopez Chaparro and Manuel Mendoza, who are both teaching level 1 at Mid-City Campus.

The Cesar Chavez Campus Administration team hosted SDCCE’s first campus Safety & Facilities meeting on September 21.
