I enjoyed attending the California Adult Education Program (CAEP) Conference with the SDCCE team.

During the 2023 CAEP Summit Monica Rosas from San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) Adult School and SDCCE’s Associate Dean Jesus Rivas delivered a presentation “Enhancing Inter-Agency Transitions Through Collaboration and Data-Informed Decision Making Evaluation”. The presentation showcased the collaborative efforts between the SDUSD and SDCCE in fostering inter-agency transitions, focusing on the development and utilization of a series of data dashboards to track inter-agency transitions from the SDUSD Adult High School Diploma Program to SDCCE Programs.

Also at the 2023 CAEP Summit, Karen Hamilton, ESL Faculty and Sandra Layden, Healthcare Adjunct Faculty presented “Diversifying the Healthcare Workforce: Strategies from San Diego College of Continuing Education”. This session reported on the recruitment efforts in underserved communities and the collaboration between healthcare career faculty and ESL faculty to identify potential language and cultural barriers in the established curriculum, including assignments and tests.

Please take a moment to read, Opinion: Community College Opens Doors of Opportunity for Foster Youth, a commentary I coauthored with SDCCD Acting Chancellor Gregory Smith detailing the critical programs at SDCCE that support former foster youth as they work to reach their educational goals. SDCCE's Gateway to College and Career program is already benefitting from $1 million in funding from Congress, made at the recommendation of Rep. Scott Peters. Gateway will share a $1.4 million state award in partnership with Promises2Kids, an award made available by state Senate President Pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins.

The Research Corner

This week, we invite you to check out a resource developed by our partners from the Center of Excellence for Labor Market Research, the Subregional Profile: Central Region. This data product analyzes the Central Region of San Diego County, exploring demographics, industries, jobs, and online job postings. Take a minute to review this resource and email if you have any questions.
