Dear SDCCE Community,

Happy Holidays and Happy Hanukkah! May this well-deserved winter break bring you joy and good health. As a reminder, SDCCE and the San Diego Community College District will be closed for business from Thursday, December 22, through Monday, January 2, and will re-open on Tuesday, January 3.

In case you missed it, take a look back at SDCCE's top moments of 2022. Thank you again for a transformative year together. I look forward to an even brighter new year and spring semester with you all and our students.

Enrollment Updates

Enrollment continues to be strong for the fall semester. SDCCE’s overall headcount is currently 14,025, an increase of 29% compared to this time last fall (10,897) and a less than 1% increase to last week (13,970). Campus Updates

  • The network upgrade for SDCCE was successfully completed on December 7th. Both ECC and West City Campus are now part of the SDCCD network fabric. There are many benefits to this upgrade, including a ten-fold improvement in network speeds at these two campuses, expanded capabilities for the Wi-Fi expansion project (currently in process) and addressing the network resiliency issues these two campuses faced previously.
  • Congratulations, Dean Cassandra Storey for the nomination for the Administrator Award by the Management Association Committee.
  • SDCCE’s Basic Needs program hosted a food distribution event on December 13th at ECC.
  • SDCCE's Mid-City Campus ASB hosted an on campus and virtual fun and festive holiday party.
  • SDCCE’s Emeritus Instructors Helena Wei, Ashlyn Brown, Dr. Yewon Lee, and Lorea Herald and their choir and piano students performed in front of a full house on December 13th at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library. Dean Hester welcomed the community. View photos.
  • The 2023 Stars of Rise scholarship application is now open for SDCCE students at https://sdcce.edu/scholarships.
  • SDCCE’s scholarship giving campaign has raised $2700 to date of the $5000 goal. Thank you to all who have already contributed to this wonderful cause. Donations are being accepted through December 31st. Donate here.
  • The Homeless Senior & Disabled Veterans Rental Assistance Program Proposal authored by SDCCE Emeritus instructor, Ted Kagan, was picked up by the office of Assembly Member/Senator Elect Janet Nguyen.
  • Open enrollment has begun for the spring semester. Classes at SDCCE begin February 1.
  • We are looking forward to the upcoming Institution Day on January 30th and 31st. More information to come!
  • SDCCE is transitioning from student attendance cards to issuing SDCCE students IDs beginning spring semester, which will support students in their transition to a district college and allow them more access to public transportation and student discounts.
  • Eligible students can apply for SDCCE's State Emergency Aid Grants to support with financial needs up to $500.00.
